Background

Dr. Christie Seiler is a native of Central Pennsylvania , growing up in the Harrisburgarea.  After graduating from LebanonValleyCollege, she attended Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield , Missouri, where she earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Neuropsychology.  She completed her internship in Rehabilitation/Health Psychology at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey. During her Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia/University of Pennsylvania, she worked with patients with primary brain tumors and studied the effects of radiotherapy on neurocognitive functioning.  She has been published in Neuropsychology and Medical and Pediatric Oncology. 

Dr. Seiler moved to Williamsportto be with her husband's family who are native to this area.  She was welcomed by Stocki & Neil Counseling Associates, P.C., an already successful group practice.  She is adjunct faculty at PennCollege and University of Phoenix, teaching courses in general psychology and lifespan development.  Dr. Seiler  recently started a newspaper column in the Health section of the Williamsport Sun Gazette.  You can read her column the third Tuesday of every month. 

Personal Message

"Most people take one look at me at question how someone so young could help them.  My reply, while chuckling under my breath, is usually that I am a lot older than I look or that I have sufficient training and experience to be effective. As the only Neuropsychologist in the Williamsportarea with specialized training in Primary Care Psychology, I recognized the community's need for a practice in which the primary mission is to support physicians and their patients in preventing and treating the emotional aspects of chronic medical conditions.  Whether a causative factor or an emotional reaction to a medical condition, it is important to address the influence of the mind on total health and prevention of disease, response to medical treatments, and recovery.  I want to normalize mental health treatment and to help the public understand that meeting with a counselor is a sign of strength and courage, and not a sign of weakness or being crazy. 

In conducting neuropsychological evaluations, I strive to be objective and sensitive, while working to understand factors that are interfering with functioning.  As a counselor, I strive to be empathic and compassionate.  I use cognitive behavioral and interpersonal interventions to identify interfering factors and support change in the positive direction.  I think of myself as a tool and believe whole-heartedly that everyone has a spark within themselves to make their lives better. I also believe that, although genetic factors play a part, changing our behavior and the way we think about things can go a long way in changing our biological makeup.  

I am also dedicated to improving the community as a whole, and work to connect community resources, to develop programs that are not available, and to educate the public about how to access them.  I am hopeful that through collaboration with the community, I can achieve my goals of making the Williamsportarea a happier and healthier place to live."
